Talon Series Acrylic Paints

Hawkeye's Hobbies Talon Series Acrylic paints were developed at the request of modelers who prefer using acrylics due to health and/or environmental concerns. Talon natural metal finish acrylics can be used in concert with Hawkeye’s Polishing Powders or alone. Talon acrylics dry to a gloss finish. There is no need to thin before application and its leveling properties are good. It accepts masking tape once cured.

Surface Preparation

Generally, a primer is not required. However, through customer feedback we’ve learned that it does not adhere well to super smooth surfaces or to plastic that has a waxy or oily surface texture. On these types of surfaces a primer coat should be applied first. You can experiment on a section of the kit’s sprue to determine whether or not primer is needed.

Application

Talon is best applied with a light misting spray, applying several light coats and pausing between each application to allow the previous coat to set up. Once you reach the coverage level you desire, let dry. Complete curing should take only a few hours.

Buffing Talon Series Acrylic Paints

Talon Series Acrylics can be buffed with or without the use of Hawkeye’s Polishing Powders. Varied tones can be achieved by using a buffing wheel on a roto-type tool spinning at low speed. Be careful not to spend too much time in one spot - this will generate heat and cause the wheel to melt into the paint. Buffing with Hawkeye’s Polishing Powders will provide a chrome-like appearance.  Buffing can also be accomplished with a soft cloth.

Applying Hawkeye’s Polishing Powders (Optional)

Application of the Polishing Powders can be done after the paint has dried. However, if the powders are applied while the Talon is still slightly tacky, the powder will bind more deeply into the paint surface. Polishing Powders can be applied with a Q-Tip, soft cloth or sponge type make-up applicator.

Clean Up & Removal

Airbrush clean up after spraying Talon can be accomplished with any household detergent such as Windex or Simple Green. Stripping from plastic parts can be accomplished with isopropyl alcohol or general household detergents.

Decaling

Apply decals direct, no sealer required.
